I recommend that you pay a little extra for your picnic rug, even on a sunny day or on the beach the floor can be damp. There are plenty of waterproof picnic rugs around.
I always take a couple camping, you can’t beat lying out by the tent in the sun whilst dinner is cooking!
I also put one under the airbed, i have used them in the main part of the tent but the only problem with this is that they can slip around a bit. There are plenty of tent carpets if you prefer.
